Stephen O’Leary
Professor Stephen O’Leary holds the William Gibson Chair of Otolaryngology at The University of Melbourne. Stephen obtained his PhD at The University of Melbourne in 1994, and completed surgical training in Ear Nose and Throat – Head and Neck Surgery in 1998. Stephen has undertaken post-doctoral research at Oxford University, UK and the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands. Since then he has worked as both a surgeon and a medical researcher at The University of Melbourne and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Stephen is known internationally for his clinical and research activities in ear disease, hearing and balance, and particularly for contributions to cochlear implantation and hearing preservation. He also has strong research interests in the use of simulation in surgical education, and in ear disease amongst Indigenous Australians.
