Doug Hartley MBBS DPhil FRCS (ORL-HNS)

Doug Hartley is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology at Nottingham University and a consultant ENT surgeon at Nottingham University Hospital's NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre. He specializes in ear surgery, including cochlear implantation. He qualified with distinction from Newcastle Medical School, and was awarded a DPhil from Oxford University in the field of hearing research. He worked as a Clinical Lecturer at Oxford University, and was fortunate to be the first recipient of a Wellcome Trust Clinician Scientist Fellowship in Otolaryngology. He spent time as a Surgical Fellow at the Sydney Cochlear Implant Centre, after becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, and completing his higher surgical training at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. His research team at the University of Nottingham use functional imaging techniques to investigate the effects of cochlear implants on the developing and adult brain. They work in association with the MRC Institute for Hearing Research, the Nottingham Hearing Biomedical Research Unit, and the Nottingham Auditory Implant Program. He serves on the Translational grant review committee for Action on Hearing Loss and the council for the Otorhinolaryngological Research Society.
