Call for Abstracts

The goal of this symposium is to explore what unique measures help us to achieve the best hearing outcome for each person who needs an auditory prosthesis. The planning group invites abstract submissions on related topics for open papers and for poster presentations.

Submissions from students are strongly encouraged.

Abstracts will also be considered for the following special Discussion sessions:

Discussion I -- The Unique Ear: Towards a better understanding of each hearing loss.
Discussion II -- The Unique Choice: Deciding whether to implant and, if so, which ear or both?
Discussion III -- The Unique Auditory Implant: Is there an optimal implant, electrode array, or technique?
Discussion IV -- The Unique Fitting: Are we providing the right cues to implant users?
Discussion V -- The Unique Benefit: Did it work? Monitoring plasticity and progress after implantation

Information to be provided

Note that names (including order), title, and abstract will appear on the website and in the program as submitted.

Contact Person: The person submitting the abstract; contact information will be collected.

Title: Give the full title of the open paper or poster

Presenters/Authors: List the name(s) of the presenter(s)/author(s), including the main institution of affiliation

Topic Area: Indicate the most suitable Discussion/open paper/poster session for your abstract

Abstract: Summary of the content (maximum 250 words);

The abstract is to be structured as follows:

  • Objectives
  • Background
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusions

Abstract Evaluation

All submissions will be evaluated based on:

  • Relevance to symposium topics
  • Demonstration of sound methodology
  • Significance of results
  • Clarity and completeness of submission

Timelines

  • Call for abstracts opens: January 7, 2014
  • Call for abstracts closes: (Deadline extended to March 20, 2014)
  • Notification of results: April 15, 2014
  • Presenter response: May 15, 2014

Additional Details

Presenters must register and pay for the conference by May 15, 2014.

Presentation days/times will be determined by the Planning Committee; if you have any limitations, please indicate this immediately upon the receipt of your acceptance notice.

ANSD 2014 Award

The Objectives Measures 2014 Meeting will host a prize for the best presentation or poster concerning the Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder.

The prize will be assigned during the closing ceremony and consists of a Nameplate and a 2.000 euro grant (doubled to 4.000 euros in case of a particular innovative work), for the first Author without any age limit.

An International Commission composed of:
Sandro Burdo (Italy) president; Karen Gordon (Canada) Secretary; Commissioners: Rolf Battmer (Germany);Andy Beynon (The Netherlands);Norbert Dillier(Switzerland); Jill Firszt (USA); Karen Gordon (Canada); Yael Henkin (Israel); GeorgeTavartkiladze (Russia), will assign the prize. The prize is sponsored by the non-profit Italian association Free to Hear with a grant from Mr. Vincenzo Acone of Milan.

Evaluation criteria will include:

  • Improvement in knowledge of ANSD
  • Study design
  • Communication efficiency

All presentations and posters accepted for the OM2012 are automatically admitted to run for the Prize if the topic is the ANSD, except for works presented by members of the Commission.
